Good Day
I've been asked to get quotes for a new server for the company. I sadly don't have that much knowledge in this field regarding the software. There are various options with regards to the operating system. I'm looking at windows 2008 server. For the various option of 2003 and 2008 they mention Client Access Licenses. I've done some reading with regards to the CAL's but the more I read the more I get confused. Basically all the operating system needs to do is act as a domain controller, it will host a share which contains about 200GB of client data. Within our company there are 50 computers of which about 40 are connected during normal business hours. So my question; is do I need to have 50 CAL'S for my server so that everyone can access the shared client data and authenticate to the server or are CALS for something else? We currently have a windows 2003 server with 5 CALS and all of the above is working but I have reason to believe that the previous IT person done something evil. Any assistance with this matter will be appreciated. |

You need one cal per device accessing the server. So in your case you would need 50.
