We have a folder on our domain just like this:
htttp://www.mydomain.com/login/ which has the "enable anonymous access" option unchecked and the "integrated windows authentication" option checked. When trying to access this folder from a variety of machines using windows 98 and XP with IE6, IE7 and the latest Firefox we are prompted to log in. Entering the correct details grants us access to the folder as expected. However, we have 1 or 2 users (1 is using IE6 on Windows XP) who are simply shown the "401.2 - you are not authorised to view this page" error message when they are never actually prompted to log in. I can find no help on why this might be... why would a small percentage of users be blocked from accessing the folder without being offered the chance to provide login credcentials first? |

Hi,
thanks for the reply. yes, it happens all the time for that user on the two machines in his office. He has a home machine that IS prompted on the same folder. There must be another 60 users for diff. folders on that server who have no problem whatsoever so I suspect the same (browser/machine settngs fault) but getting distant users to comply and follow instructions can be frustrating at times and hard to achieve. We've tried enabling/disabling "enable integrated windows authentication" in advanced options of IE6 but this apparently has no effect. I've asked the user to reset their browser to default settings and delete all cache/history/forms/profile/auto-complete data but have yet to hear back. Would love to get my hands on an affected machine... working by proxy is too slow. Was really hoping that someone technical had seen and solved this error... |

After routing about in more settings we tried changing the following:
Tools > Internet options > Securtity > [select Internet] Custom Level... scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list and there's a "User Authentication" > "Logon" setting with 4 options. The user had the same setting as myself ("Automatic Login only in Intranet Zone") but we changed it anyway to the last of the 4 ("Prompt for Username and Password") Upon re-tyring the URL the user was finally prompted for the username and password and successfully logged in. problem solved I guess. |
